Antique Kingfisher Feather Peacock Pin from China

A treasure from the Orient that’s actually two birds in one, for while the visage is that of a Peacock, the feathers are all Kingfisher.  Looking like silk or paint the electric blue areas are actually Kingfisher feathers, a crafting technique the Chinese have been perfecting for 2,000 years. While I do not believe this piece is quite THAT old, the practice was discontinued in the 1940’s so we know it’s at least 60 years old.  A close look will reveal superb detail and the fact that the brooch is not one piece but seven that have been soldered together and strengthened with wire on the back.  It measures 2.5” long,  2 3/8” wide, and is marked “Made in China” on the back. There is some loss of feathers and one wing tip is a little bent (see pics) but the pin is still in good condition for its age and delicacy. Not too often seen yet always remembered, tis a pin with a past and hopefully YOUR future. (Posed with a silk scarf available right here at Beak Chic, item #314).
