A simply stunning (and large) Birdie brooch marked S.A.L., which stands for Swarovski America, Ltd., dating it no later than 1988 when Swarovski went to the Swan mark. No Swan this fellow, but rather a Pigeon or Dove (a Parrot has been suggested but the beak isn’t right) with black stones that curiously aren’t rhinestones – considering its origin. Measures an impressive 2.5” in height and .75” in width and is in excellent vintage condition. If he began in America then this guy has been around – for he was acquired from a lass in England. Quite a statement piece for suit, jacket or coat and definitely NOT for the shy & retiring!
